How to resize image to 50KB
- Choose your photo above.
- Check the range: Min 20 KB and Max 50 KB are filled in. Change them if your form says otherwise.
- Tap Crop & rotate to frame your face. Most forms want the face to fill most of the photo.
- Enter the size from your form under Dimensions & DPI, or tap a preset.
- Download the JPG and upload it.
Why 50KB is a good size for a photo
At 50 KB a passport-style photo can keep several hundred pixels of width with good JPEG quality, so faces look natural with no blocky patches. It is the upper limit for photos on the IBPS and SBI forms, paired with a 20 KB minimum so the photo is not too small to verify. The same 20–50 KB range applies to the left thumb impression on those forms.
Exams that ask for an image up to 50KB
| Exam | Upload | 2026 official limit |
|---|---|---|
| IBPS PO, Clerk, RRB; SBI PO, Clerk | Photo | 20–50 KB, 200×230 px |
| IBPS PO, Clerk, RRB; SBI PO, Clerk | Left thumb impression | 20–50 KB, 240×240 px at 200 DPI |
| RRB NTPC, Group D, ALP | Signature | 30–49 KB, at least 140×60 px |
| CUET UG, UGC NET | Signature | 10–50 KB |
For RRB, use Max 49, not 50: the notice says between 30 KB and 49 KB. Tap the 49 KB button above. For signatures, the signature resizer also cleans the paper to white.
Resize image to 50KB as a passport size photo
A passport size photo in India is 3.5 cm wide and 4.5 cm high. On screen, centimetres only mean something together with a DPI. At 300 DPI, which is normal for printing, 3.5×4.5 cm is 413×531 pixels; at 200 DPI it is 276×354 pixels. Tap the Passport 3.5×4.5 cm preset to get 413×531 at 300 DPI, or type a different DPI if your form gives one. The DPI is written into the JPG so that portals and print shops read the right physical size.
Bank exam forms describe the photo as 4.5 cm × 3.5 cm but then ask for 200×230 pixels. Follow the pixels: they are what the upload box checks. The Bank exam photo 200×230 px preset does this, and the result is usually between 25 and 45 KB.
Face size and background
Several exams now check how much of the photo your face fills. UPSC asks for the face to cover at least 75% of the photo. NTA exams (NEET, JEE Main, CUET, UGC NET) ask for 80% of the face to be visible including the ears, on a white background. India Post GDS asks for the face to fill 70–80% of the image. A phone photo taken from arm's length usually shows too much background, so use Crop & rotate and crop from just above the head to just below the chin, leaving a little shoulder.
A plain white or light wall behind you does two things: it meets the background rule, and it compresses very well, so more of the 50 KB goes to your face.
Resize image to 50KB on your phone
Most applicants fill these forms on a phone, so the whole tool works in a mobile browser without an app. Take the photo with the rear camera rather than the front one, because it is sharper and does not mirror the image. Ask someone to hold the phone at eye level about one metre away, then choose the photo here, crop it, and download. On Android the JPG lands in Downloads; on iPhone it is saved to Files, and the share sheet can also save it to Photos. iPhone photos in HEIC format are converted to JPG automatically.
Common mistakes with a 20–50 KB range
- Going far below 50 KB. Some generic compressors squeeze every photo to 10–15 KB. That fails the 20 KB minimum and looks blurry. Keep Min 20 here.
- Treating 50 KB as 51,200 bytes. A file of 50,500 bytes shows as 49.3 KB on many phones but is over 50,000 bytes. Results from this page stay under 50,000.
- Uploading the photo in the thumb field. The thumb impression has the same 20–50 KB range, so the portal will not warn you. Name your files clearly; downloads from this page are named like
photo-45kb.jpg. - Stretching the photo. Typing 200×230 for a wide photo without cropping squashes your face. Choose Crop to fill, or crop first with Crop & rotate and the box locks to the right shape.
Tips for a 50KB photo that passes
- Take the photo in daylight facing a window, not under a single ceiling bulb.
- Look straight at the camera with your eyes open. Remove caps and dark glasses.
- Do not use a filter or beauty mode. Several exams match the photo against your face at the centre.
- Keep the same photo for every stage of the process; SBI advises keeping extra prints of it.
- Check the exact byte count under After. Files from this page stay under 50,000 bytes, so they pass whether the portal counts 1 KB as 1000 or 1024 bytes.
Other sizes
Need it smaller? Try the 20 KB resizer. For larger limits, use the 100 KB compressor, or set any custom value on the photo resize in KB page.
Frequently asked questions
How do I resize a photo to 50 KB?
Choose the photo above and keep Max size at 50 KB. The tool keeps as much resolution as it can while staying under 50 KB, then gives you a JPG.
My form needs a photo between 20 KB and 50 KB. Is this the right tool?
Yes. The minimum is already set to 20 KB and the maximum to 50 KB, which matches the 2026 IBPS and SBI notifications. Tap the Bank exam photo 200×230 preset under Dimensions.
Can I make a 50 KB passport size photo here?
Yes. Open Dimensions and tap Passport 3.5×4.5 cm. At 300 DPI that is 413×531 pixels, and the DPI is written into the file. Use Crop & rotate first to centre your face.
Can I resize my thumb impression to 50 KB?
Yes. Tap the Thumb 240×240 preset, which also sets 200 DPI as IBPS and SBI ask, and keep the 20–50 KB range.
Is a 50 KB limit 50,000 or 51,200 bytes?
Portals do not say. Results from this page stay under 50,000 bytes and above the minimum counted as 1024 bytes per KB, so they pass both checks.
Why is my result 30 KB and not exactly 50 KB?
If your original photo is small or very plain, it may already look perfect at 30 KB. Set Min size to 45 if your form insists on a size close to 50 KB, and the tool will enlarge it.
