JEE Main photo size and signature size: official rules
Source: JEE (Main) 2027 Information Bulletin, NTA, released 24 October 2026. Always read the bulletin for your session before uploading.
How to resize your JEE Main photo
- Take the photo. Stand in front of a plain white wall in daylight, face the camera, remove any mask or cap, and keep both ears visible. Ask someone else to take it at eye level.
- Choose it in tool 1. The limits are already set to 10–200 KB.
- Crop. Tap Crop & rotate and crop from just above your hair to just below the chin, with a little shoulder. The face should fill most of the photo.
- Check the colour. JEE Main does not accept black and white. If the photo looks dark, raise Brightness slightly.
- Download and upload the JPG in the photo field.
The bulletin gives no pixel size. A result between 100 KB and 200 KB with a few hundred pixels of width is ideal: it looks sharp on the confirmation page and on the admit card. If you want a standard passport shape, tap Passport 3.5×4.5 cm.
How to resize your JEE Main signature
- Sign on plain white paper with a black pen, a little larger than usual.
- Photograph it straight from above in good light. It does not matter if the table shows around the paper.
- Choose it in tool 2. The paper is turned pure white, the table and empty margins are removed, and the file is kept between 10 KB and 100 KB.
- Download and upload it in the signature field.
Because JEE Main gives no dimensions, there is no need to set a size. If you prefer a fixed shape, the 300×120 and 400×160 presets keep the whole signature with a white border.
JEE Main photo mistakes that cause rejection
- Face too small. A full-body or half-body photo does not meet the 80% face rule. Crop closer.
- Ears hidden. Hair or a scarf covering the ears can be a problem. Tuck hair back if you can.
- Background not white. A cupboard, curtain or coloured wall behind you is a common reason for rejection.
- Black and white photo. Not accepted for JEE Main, even though some other NTA exams allow it.
- File outside 10–200 KB. Phone photos are usually 2–5 MB. This page keeps the file inside the limit, counting 1 KB as 1000 or 1024 bytes.
- Selfie camera mirror. Front cameras flip the image and are often soft. Use the rear camera if someone can help.
JEE Main live photo
For the 2027 session the form also captures a live photo through your laptop webcam or your phone, and it is mandatory. It is used to confirm your identity, so the uploaded photo and the live photo should clearly be the same person: same glasses or no glasses, similar hairstyle, a white background for both. NTA has also advised candidates to log in through DigiLocker, JanParichay or e-Pramaan and complete re-KYC before filling the form.
JEE Main vs NEET vs CUET photo size
| Exam | Photo | Colour | Signature |
|---|---|---|---|
| JEE Main 2027 | 10–200 KB | Colour only | 10–100 KB |
| NEET UG 2026 | 10–200 KB | Colour or black and white | 10–100 KB |
| CUET UG 2026 | 10–200 KB | Colour | 10–50 KB |
All three ask for about 80% of the face visible including the ears, a white background and no mask, so one good photo can serve all of them. Resize the signature separately for CUET, which allows only up to 50 KB.
Other NTA exams
NEET UG uses the same 10–200 KB photo range but accepts black and white photos and also asks for finger impressions; see NEET photo and signature size. CUET UG and UGC NET use a smaller signature limit of 10–50 KB. For a custom limit use photo resize in KB, or compress image to 200KB for any 200 KB photo field.
Frequently asked questions
What is the photo size for JEE Main 2027?
The JEE Main 2027 information bulletin asks for a colour photo in JPG/JPEG between 10 KB and 200 KB, with about 80% of the face visible including the ears, on a white background, without a mask. No pixel size is given.
What is the signature size for JEE Main?
A JPG/JPEG file between 10 KB and 100 KB. The bulletin does not give dimensions, so a clean signature cropped close to the ink works best.
Can I upload a black and white photo for JEE Main?
No. The JEE Main 2027 bulletin asks for a colour photograph. NEET and UGC NET allow black and white, but JEE Main does not.
Do I still need to upload a photo if JEE Main takes a live photo?
Yes. The live photo is captured by webcam or phone during the form and is mandatory, but you must also upload the photo file. Both should show you clearly against a white background.
Why is my JEE Main photo rejected?
Common reasons are a file outside 10–200 KB, a photo where the face is too small, a coloured or cluttered background, a black and white photo, or a mask or cap. Crop close to the face and use a plain white wall.
Is my photo uploaded to this website?
No. Everything runs in your browser. Your photo and signature never leave your device.
