SSC signature size: official rules

How to resize your signature for SSC
- Sign on plain white paper with a black or dark blue pen. Sign larger than normal so the strokes stay clear after shrinking.
- Photograph it from directly above in daylight. The table around the paper is removed automatically.
- Choose the photo above. Min 10 KB and Max 20 KB are already set, with 300 DPI.
- Pick a shape under Dimensions & DPI: SSC 6.0×2.0 cm for most notices. The signature is fitted inside with a white border, so it is never cut off.
- Download the JPG and upload it in the signature field.
6.0×2.0 cm or 4.0×2.0 cm?
SSC's own documents disagree. The main text of the 2026 CGL and CHSL notices, and the MTS 2025 and GD 2026 notices, describe the signature as about 6.0 cm wide and 2.0 cm high. The annexure at the end of the CGL and CHSL notices says about 4.0 cm by 2.0 cm. Both are written as approximate sizes, and the upload box checks the file size and format. Use 6.0×2.0 cm unless the form you are filling shows 4.0×2.0 cm next to the upload box; the result is 10–20 KB either way.
At 300 DPI, 6.0×2.0 cm is 709×236 pixels and 4.0×2.0 cm is 472×236 pixels. A clean signature at that size is often only a few KB, so the tool keeps it sharp and, if needed, adds padding inside the file to reach the 10 KB minimum. The signature itself is unchanged.
Why SSC has no photo upload any more
Recent SSC notices say the candidate is not required to have an existing photograph. Instead, the application captures your photo through the camera. The notices ask for good light, a plain background, the camera at eye level, your face fully inside the frame and no cap, mask or glasses, and they warn that photographing an existing photo leads to rejection. So you do not need a photo resizer for SSC, only a properly sized signature.
SSC signature on a phone, step by step
Most candidates fill the SSC form on a phone. Put the paper on a table near a window, hold the phone directly above it so the paper looks rectangular, and tap to focus on the ink before taking the picture. Open this page in the same phone's browser, choose the photo, tap SSC 6.0×2.0 cm, and download. The file is saved to Downloads on Android or Files on iPhone; select it from there in the SSC upload box. If the preview shows a faint line or speck from the paper, crop it out with Crop & rotate and the tool will redo the clean-up.
Aadhaar authentication and visually impaired candidates
The 2026 SSC notices say that candidates who complete Aadhaar-based authentication are not rejected over photo or signature standards. Even so, upload a clear signature: it is compared with the one you sign at the exam centre. Visually impaired candidates may give a thumb impression in place of a signature, as allowed in the notice; a thumb impression can be resized here in the same way.
Common SSC signature mistakes
- Signing in capital letters. Use your normal running signature.
- Lined notebook paper. Ruled lines can stay in the image. Use blank paper.
- Shadow of the phone. A grey patch across the signature lowers contrast. The clean-up removes most of it, but daylight is best.
- Too small inside the frame. A short signature in a big white box looks like a dot after resizing. Cut empty margins fixes this.
- File slightly over 20 KB. Some portals count 1 KB as 1000 bytes. Files from this page stay under 20,000 bytes.
Other signature rules
Bank exams use 10–20 KB at 140×60 pixels, and RRB needs 30–49 KB; see RRB signature size and the general signature resize tool. UPSC asks for three signatures in one image; see UPSC photo and signature size. For a plain size limit, use resize image to 20KB.
Frequently asked questions
What is the SSC signature size in KB?
The 2026 SSC notices for CGL, CHSL and GD, and the MTS 2025 notice, ask for a scanned signature in JPEG/JPG between 10 KB and 20 KB.
What are the SSC signature dimensions?
About 6.0 cm wide and 2.0 cm high in the main text of the notices. The annexure of the CGL and CHSL 2026 notices says about 4.0 × 2.0 cm. Both are approximate; a signature in either shape within 10–20 KB is what matters.
Do I need to upload a photo for SSC?
No. SSC no longer takes an uploaded photo. The application form captures your photo live through the webcam or phone camera, so only the signature needs resizing.
What DPI should the SSC signature be?
The SSC GD 2026 notice mentions 300 DPI. The other notices do not give a DPI. The presets on this page write 300 DPI into the file, which suits all of them.
My SSC signature is only 5 KB. Will it be rejected?
It may be, because the minimum is 10 KB. Keep Min size at 10 and the tool keeps more pixels or adds harmless padding inside the file so it reaches 10 KB without changing the signature.
Is my signature uploaded to your server?
No. The tool runs in your browser and the signature never leaves your device.
